August 16, 2011 – The College of Engineering and Computing has announced an agreement with Quality Leadership University (QLU) in Panama to launch its second MS in Construction Management (MSCM) program in Latin America/Caribbean. The announcement follows the success of a similar partnership to offer the MSCM with Universidad Iberoamericana (UNIBE) in the Dominican Republic launched in 2011.

The program, which will be offered beginning in fall 2012, will be held on the QLU campus in Panama City. Taught entirely in English by the same internationally recognized faculty that teach at the Miami campus, the program is designed for civil engineers and architects giving professionals living and working in the region the opportunity to earn the FIU MSCM degree without interrupting their careers.

“This program is another step towards our College’s global expansion efforts, and will provide Panamanian construction professionals with much needed managerial skills to manage their large multi-project construction programs such as the Panama Canal expansion,” said Caesar Abi Shdid, Director of External Programs at the College.

While in Panama, Amir Mirmiran, Dean of the College, met with government leaders including Federico José Suárez, Minister of Public Works, Manuel E. Soriano, Director of Engineering of the Ministry of Housing, in addition to Oscar León, President of QLU, and industry leaders including Titan America.

The program is one of several international programs offered by the College throughout Latin America and the Caribbean in addition to globally accessible online programs.

The MSCM is the second program offered by FIU at QLU in Panama. FIU currently offers the Professional MBA-Panama program through the FIU Chapman Graduate School of Business.
